The Okra Song

Celebrate the Pod.

2004

In 2004, OkraFest took place in August rather than September because Lisa and Mick were traveling to Italy in September. Consequently, the okra crop wasn't quite ready. So we had to scour grocery store produce shelves to buy up what fresh okra they had - and it was not up to OkraFest standards. 2003 Queen Fran Coker appropriately dubbed it "faux-kra."

Top row: The official T-shirt (front and back), designed by artist Spencer Pettit of Mount Dora.

Middle: The store-bought "faux-kra;" 2003 Queen Fran Coker bids farewell after her yearlong reign.

Bottom: Newly crowned 2004 Queen Sarah Steinhoff, who is expecting baby Malcolm to be born any day; Sara and the Ceremonial Harvest.
